The Undraped Artist
By Kwani Povi Winder
The Undraped Artist is a newer podcast that interviews “some of the world’s most accomplished and gifted artists about their work, process, philosophy and experience.” It’s hosted by Jeff Hein, an incredible portrait artist who The Art Renewal Center has titled a “living Master.”
In the podcast Jeff Hein has been able to pose questions that I would ask if I could have a one on one with each artist. In their relaxed and natural conversations, you get to pull up a chair and listen in on the discussion across the coffee table. Subjects touch on the artist’s art, but they also discuss trials the artist has faced, parenthood, religion, career paths and the artist’s philosophy on life and art. Just a quick scroll through the episodes reveals an incredible line-up of world-renowned artists and experts. Bryan Mark Taylor, Quang Ho, Anna Rose Bain and David Dibble are just a few artists who Jeff has interviewed that I have admired and looked up to for a long time.
I’m new to listening to podcasts, but what immediately caught my eye is that each episode also has a video recording available to watch. In either form, it’s a deeply enriching experience for artist and non-artist alike to listen along as the individuals found behind extraordinary art are undraped. (The Undraped Artist podcast features a new interview each Monday.)
